Corporate Ski Trips

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Although the weather is still lovely in Chamonix the winter ski season is fast approaching.  For many companies now is the time to book their corporate ski event.  With the recession easing corporate trips this winter are much more popular than predicted earlier in the year and if the winter is as good as last year corporate ski events for 2009-2010 are set to be a real success.  Ski trips are always popular as corporate events as they reward employees and clients, are a great way to escape a corporate environment and can be used simply to reward or for a number of events including team building events.

We have found that skiing is also a great way to add value to a corporate event; rather than having a devoted corporate ski trip a popular way to budget in the annualk ski trip is to hold a concentive trip.  A great corporate event package Ten80 can offer is a conference with skiing which save costs by combining your annual conference with your annual ski trip.  As Chamonix has both fantastic skiing and brilliant conference facilities for groups of any size it’s a natural progression in the current climate.  If you don’t fancy Chamonix or have been and would like a change then there are loads of brilliant resorts in the Alps for all types of events that can be picked specifically for your event.

Ten80 Events accept the Decaux 5000 Challenge

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Our final corporate event in September was a completely different type of corporate event with Decaux Outdoor.  Decaux briefed us to come up with a 3 day hiking challenge in the Alps and we thought where better than Chamonix and the surrounding Haute Savoie region.  We labelled it the Decaux 5000 Challenge, relating to the altitude we would have to climb in total.  And it was indeed a challenge, everyone with a laden rucksack and with a lot of hiking up and down steep mountains and roughing it in refuges.  Every one of the group embraced the challenge, and we finished up in town at the targeted time for a congratulatory beer, ok beers.  This was all the more deserved because Decaux and their guests raised over £10,000 for the Macmillan Cancer Support !

For keen hikers out there, Chamonix offers a wide and varied range of hikes in some of the most spectacular scenery in the world

How to rescue a corporate event from bad weather

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

Every year, Ten80 Events entertain Primesight and their guests with what has become an established and sought after corporate entertainment trip within the media industry.  Every year until last month, we have had glorious, uninterrupted sunshine throughout the weekend.  Not this year, where we experienced some of the worst weather the Alps can throw at you, with rain, wind, thunder and lightning scuppering a well planned and adrenalin activities-full agenda.

It started off brilliantly, with grade 5 level white water rafting in Italy on the Dora Balte under a blue sky.  Back in France though, Chamonix was in the grips of a storm so our surprise return transfer around Mont Blanc by helicopter had to be cancelled.  The next day in Chamonix, the weather fared no better so we moved the climbing lesson indoors from the outdoor climbing wall, Les Gaillands.  Everyone had a go at climbing, even some serious overhangs and we ensured our guests had exclusive use of the climbing wall.  Along with some hand-picked climbing guides, this all still ensured our guests had a great time.

Instead of swinging from tree to tree in the Adventure Park, we had to find another indoor activity and organised a lesson and competition in curling.  Not an easy sport but a lot of fine and not a little dangerous with those pucksflying across the ice from inexperienced media executives.

When the weather turns on an activities corporate event, you need to be highly flexible with Plans, C and D lined up.  A decent nightlife package is also key and something Chamonix is great at.  Both nights, the Primesight group partied away, livening up all the bars and clubs they went to, with a range of cocktails, shots and dance-offs.  We even organised for Melvil, a world famous band (well almost) to play for the group in Munster bar, a popular decision, particularly amongst the girls of the group.

This turned out to be a fantastic and  highly successful corporate event when disaster was looming. Although Ten80 Events would like to take full credit due to our creativity and crisis management, the dynamic of the group and the way they embraced the new activities and ignored the weather was a key factor to this great event.
