Get your thermals out, the winter season is here!

Monday, November 30th, 2009

A world with no colour sounds rubbish right?  Not if it’s all white in Chamonix.  It was looking bleak last week; there was a little smattering of snow on the peaks but it wasn’t looking too promising. But today the residents of Chamonix have woken up to find a blanket of the fluffy white stuff covering pretty much everything.  For the residents of Chamonix this marks the start of the winter season.  As fresh faced seassonaires start to grace the aisles of SuperU the town will soon totally forgot their interseason blues as the the winter kicks in.   Lift passes will be snapped up and ski and boards serviced ready for the first lift opening in December.

For our clients who love to ski this will be great news as it will mean the company ski trip isn’t too far away.  Take a look at our snowy office pictures on facebook to get you in the mood.  Although if you’re waiting for your company to book  a trip there are affordable ski trips to be had from the start of the season this year. So dig out your thermals and sign up to our email newsletter to  take advantage of these great prices by emailing us at info@ten80events.com or get hold of us through Facebook or Twitter.

Ten80 Events Facebook Fan Page

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Remember the days before social networks when you’d have to call your friend if you wanted to meet them down the pub and skiving at work wasn’t filled with status updates, it all seems pretty hazy.  Unfortunately this isn’t the case for Ten80 Events who have just launched our Facebook fan page. Next on the list is a Twitter page so we can fill you life with news from Chamonix and Ten80 Events.  Apart from giving ourselves a great excuse to skive from work our social network will not be us shamelessly promoting our business but something more interesting.

Many a visitor in Chamonix this winter will be apart of a corporate trip, hopefully hosted by yours truly, but we understand if you are in Chamonix for a holiday.  Apart from running corporate events, Ten80’s Tim and Al are what you could call ‘men about town’ having lived here for 6 years.  If your in search of snow, ski and vin chaud (or more likely beer) who better to guide you around Chamonix than Ten80.  With more options than you can shake a stick at we are on Facebook to make sure you make the most of this town.  From advice with pre-ski exercise to the best bars in Chamonix we are on hand for a biased Ten80 guide to Cham.

Show us how much you care and become a fan of Ten80 Events!

New Apres Ski Bar Chamonix

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Ten80 are bringing you news hot off the press, Chamonix will be home to a new après ski bar ‘The Vallee Blanche’. It will be apart of the Vallee Blanche hotel in a great central location just off Chamonix town square, but this will be no ordinary hotel bar.  With the focus on après ski this place will open in time for some fun after a hard day on the mountains.  A great variety of beers will be served up and you can take advantage of the happy hour form 5-6pm every day.  There will be a host of bands playing throughout the season so each night will have a real party atmosphere.  There will be some tasty grub too served until 9, the menu will consist of simple yummy home cooked food to warm you up and help soak up some of the beer.

The launch party on November 20th is well anticipated in resort, before the season starts to kick off, it gives the locals an excuse for a celebration. If you’re planning on a trip to Chamonix this winter The Vbar/The VBbar (we’re not sure which nickname will stick yet)  sounds well worth a visit.  If you’re not planning a trip then a new bar in Cham is a good excuse to organise a trip to the valley to check out the new nightlife and the mountains for some skiing.

New season ski and snowboard wear

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

There is a buzz about town as all the new ski and snowboard products are released for the 2010 winter season.  There’s some great looking stuff on the market this year for the fashion conscious skier.  You no longer have to fear the turtle neck with Neve’s Prima Bella collection for the winter.  Much funkier than your average this collection may even make the turtle neck cool.  Another item I’ve seen which is still a bargain for the winter is Rubber Duck snow joggers, at only 40€.  A great price and they look super comfy and stylish at the same time, quite an achievement.  Gretchen Bleiler’s second line of Oakley designs are as cute as the first, receiving rave reviews.  A number of outerwear designs are rocking Recco’s reflective patches to help find avalanche victims, it is simple and effective.  The neon revolution in snowboarding clothes still reigns supreme with jazzy prints and bright pant’s for the snowboarders who usually hang around the parks and love a bit of attention.

For the environmentally friendly skier and snowboarder there are some great products on the market.  Magic potion is snowboard wax that doesn’t release harmful chemicals into the snow like normal board wax to keep the snow nice and clean.  With so much wastage involved in the making of ski’s, companies like Venture and Apo have created bamboo core products to help cut down the harmful emissions and materials used, meaning we can enjoy guilt free days on the piste.  Burton has created a solar powered backpack so you can charge your phone and mp3 on the move using only sunlight as your power, and means no more dead batteries up the mountain. And Obermeyer is using recycled polyester twill fabrics in some of its men’s jackets with a woven polyester twill made of 48 percent recycled polyester.  All this eco equipment is well worth a ganders, its super good for the environment meaning hopefully we’ll have snow covered mountains for many seasons to come.
